![]() Kelly Jordon Classic # 4 Kelly Jordon might be America's hardest working bass pro. He competes on both the BASS and FLW Tours as well as the BASS E-50 Tour. Kelly fished an amazing stretch of 10 tour level events in 11 weeks this past Spring and won a spectacular event at Lake Santee Cooper with a near record winning weight. During this past tour season, Jordon was the number one ranked angler in the world, according to BassFan.com's poll and has earned over $500,000.00 in his career. He has won three tour events in his career, Lake Wheeler (2001,) Lake Gunthersville (2002) and Santee-Cooper (2004.) July 24th 10:00 AM est (Saturday) "I'm in Alabama, I should make Charlotte by this afternoon. We check in today and tonight we go to a meeting where we are paired with one of the Junior World Championship competitors. The Junior championship involves youngsters who have fished a series of state events and regional events and now are fishing a world championship. This should be a lot of fun. Tomorrow, Sunday, we will go and pre fish Lake Norman, and then on Monday, we will operate the boat for them while they fish. I think this is a totally cool deal and I look forward to it as one of my week's highlights. As for what I did on my Summer vacation, I went deep sea fishing several times and caught a bunch of yellow fin tuna. A friend of mine is really dialed into this kind of fishing and he took us out into the Gulf of Mexico and we fished oil derricks. We got our fish on surface lures! That is more intense than Peacock Bass fishing, I really enjoyed it. I got some rest and now I'm ready. The guy who gets on to the right school of fish will win this Classic. I can't imagine anyone who has the fish going now, as in a month ago and those fish will still be doing the same thing. It will basically be do what you think will work, from what was going on last month and keep moving until you hit the right group of fish." July 29th 10:00 PM est When we were here last month, I found this big group of huge fish. I had a couple of 18 pound days. Today I went and looked and they were still there! Catching them might be tricky, but there are enough fish here that over three days could win the tournament. The one thing that I can get them to bite consistently is a Lake Fork baby creature in the pepper and chartreuse color. I may have to invoke squatters rights on these fish. I must be there when they decide to bite. (Friday) July 30th 10:00 PM est (Friday) I have them right where I want them. Folks can remember that this is where I thought the leader would have to be during the second part of the tournament. I have just under 10 pounds and make a real run with 14 or 15 pound bag tomorrow. Today, I couldn't get any of the real big ones to bite, and there are a few more smaller ones than I had last month. Today I caught 6 or 7 early and then I just camped on the spot. Its really defensive fishing. Any time spectator boats would come by to watch, I would just sit there and tie carolina rigs or something. I don't want anyone on this spot. 19th place isn't bad, I'm about 7 pounds out. If I can make up 31/2 each day, I have a shot, and those kind of fish are on the spot I am fishing.I think I can get them again tomorrow. |
(Saturday) July 31st 3:00 PM est Kelly is on his way to the weigh in. I camped on that spot today and actually got one of the good ones to bite the carolina rigged creature bait I am fishing. My weight, 11-02 with one 3-4 pounder, could be 13 pounds with two 3-4 pounders, could be 15 pounds with three 3-4 pounders, could be 17 pounds with four 3-4 pounders and could push 20 pounds if I can get five of those to bite or if I can catch one of those seven pounders that Mike Iaconelli caught. 18 pounds would put me right at 40 pounds, I don't think anyone else can catch 40 pounds here. Last month when we were here, Jason Quinn told that during the Summer, the way the dam pulls water makes a big difference. He said on Fridays, the fishing is pretty good. On Saturday's its usually terrible and on Sunday's the bite is wide open. The first two days have gone to plan, I hope Sunday does as well. (Sunday) August 1 Final Standing- 15 fish 34-07 5th place $25,000.00 "I did about what I thought I could do on my spot. Today I got 13-06, about what I felt this creek channel could produce. Today, every fish I caught was bigger than the others I caught in the first two days. I lost one good fish the first day, so I fished pretty much flawlessly. You knew it would come down to catching one big fish. Probably the guy who should have/could have won was Mike Iaconelli. That seven pounder could have been a difference maker. If I could have caught one like that, and they were in where I was fishing, I could have culled out one of my two pounders and I would have been right there. I'm happy with 5th place, but to realize that I was on the right fish is a little frustrating. You never know when you are going to have a chance to win one of these things. Looking back, I probably should have pounded my water harder on day one. I was afraid of having the spot jumped, so I kind of slowed down and protected the water all day instead of fishing it real hard. Read About Kelly's Spot And Technique click here
