3-29-05 Day 1 Practice-

Fish bit pretty well today, although I had to go through quite a few fish to catch a 15" keeper.  Weather is warm, and water warmed up a lot.  Water was about 48 degrees when we launched, and I found a couple of pockets that had 55 degree water.  Still too early for these fish to make much of a push to the shallows, that is probably about a month away.

Right at the end of the day today, I found an area that was stacked full of bait fish and the bass were bustin them on the surface.  I didn't catch any keepers there, I didn't have time to fish it much, I wanted to get back to the ramp.  I will go to that area tomorrow and fish it a little more carefully.

Fished a Storm Wiggle Wart today, for most of my bites.  They say that is the deal around here.

3-30-05 Day 2 Practice-

Fish need to be 15," here, I caught a lot of fish, not a lot of keepers, although I have caught  several keeper spotted bass.  I went back to my lure of choice today, a Norman crank bait, chartreuse with a blue back.  The water that I fished today had a decent stain to it.  I started out in the area I found at the end of the day yesterday.  I was throwing a suspending rip bait, and I got several fish, a couple that would keep, which is encouraging, I am looking for limits to begin with, it is important to me to weigh five.

I also picked up on a bite off of the points fishing a football head jig.  I caught several keeper spotted bass on the jig, and feel good about it's potential.

One more day to get ready.  I would like to see if I can duplicate that shad deal, that is, find a couple of more areas where the bait is really stacked like the one place that I fished this morning.  That is what I will go after tomorrow.  I plan to fish to about 1:30, and then get off the water, rig and get ready.

3/31/05 Day One-1 Fish / 3-10 / 89th place

I struggled today.  I caught plenty of fish, but only one that I could measure, I actually had another that should have measured, but it was so full of shad, that it wouldn't stretch out and lie flat.

Today, I basically went out and pre fished again.  I have yet to find a pattern for bigger, keeper sized fish.  I pulled into and area and came around a bend and discovered a point with a nice drop off at the end.  I started to throw a carolina rig, but when I saw how deep the drop off was, I picked up my crank rod, with a Norman's DD-22.  I banged that thing off of boulders all the way towards the boat, and the big fish struck.

It was late in the day, and I did catch another good spotted bass that was just a little too small.  Tomorrow, I am going to start on that point and fish in thoroughly with several different lures.  The good thing about the point is that there are several more in the area.

I went to a focus meeting last night.  I have been wanting to do this.  The focus meeting is kind of a fellowship of anglers.  I have tired and missed doing them so far this year.  It was real nice, really gets you to come back to what is important.

One more day to get back into it.  If I can swing 2 or 3 fish like the one I weighed today, I might be able to make a little noise.
