Lake Toho- January 24-30
More Tour Journals

1-24-05 Pre Fish-"Freakin Cold!"  This is supposed to be Florida.  Coming from the Northeast, I feel gypped, by this weather.  I had four bites today, a couple of two pounders and a couple of bigger fish in the four pound category.  I fished areas today that I am familiar with, only to discover that with the dredging they did this Summer, the lake is completely different.  I caught the fish doing what I like to do, which is to throw reaction baits.  I fished Toho today and will fish Cypress Lake tomorrow, I don't want to lock through all the way to Kissimmee, because the locks are a risk, very small, can only hold about 30 boats, and if you miss, then you could wreck your whole week.  I shouldn't need to go all the way down there anyway.

I found water in the 51-56 degree range.  This time of year, water temperature is crucial, because the fish will be trying to move up.  Whether they will or not depends on what the predicted warming trend actually brings.  It doesn't take a lot to changes things here in Florida.  The lakes are very shallow, and can turn in a short time.

There is a lot of hydrilla off shore, kind of in the middle of the lake, and some kind of strange vine looking stuff along the shore line, I don't know if the fish are using this, but it looks like they should be.
