Harmon Davis Makes A Case For Running Tides

Always a question posed to tour pros, "do you run tides or fish a population of fish?"  Marlow, Ok pro Harmon Davis finished a close 2nd to David Dudley recently at FLW Tour Championship by running tides on the James River and focusing on "drains."  Drains or Chutes are areas that seperate the main channels from tidal lakes that typically fill up with water during incoming tide and then spill back out into the main channel.

It is when these tidal lakes begin to drain that Davis likes to concentrate on the key structures.  A Chute will funnel water through a small area, making a stronger current flow.  When this water passes through the area, many anglers will fish the outflow of these drains because bass will congregate to feed at the mouths of these drains.

"On the James River, you might fish all day until the tide started moving, you needed to make sure you were in your spot, because in 15 minutes, the bite would be over."  Running the tide, would mean making sure to fish a number of these chutes when the tide was right.
