Heavy Pressure
Andy Morgan of Dayton, Tennessee knows all about heavy pressure.
This week he is fishing the FLW EverStart Championship on Old Hickory Lake
in his home state of Tennessee. "Old Hickory really gets some
pressure. It is right there near down town Nashville and there are a
lot of anglers that live in that area."
When asked how he approaches a heavily pressured body of water he
responded with these interesting ideas:
- "I like to fish isolated areas that might involve a little bit
longer run than most of the other guys are fishing. I feel this
gives me access to fish that aren't being pounded on the head every
day."
- "I also will try to fish areas that most anglers
overlook. Sometimes that means fishing offshore structure.
The bank is going to get beat up, in fact, if a bass moves up on a
piece of bank cover, he has a good chance of getting caught. Off
shore, the fish aren't bothered as much and might not be so
sensitive."
- "I like to go to places that don't even look like they hold
fish and work the subtle differences carefully."
- "I also like to look for places most anglers won't go to, for
example, if I have to take my garden tools with me and do some
trimming or digging to get myself back into some water that otherwise
is not accessible to other anglers."
- "When all else fails, I will down-size my line and the profile
of my baits."
