Fishing The Little George-With Dan Morehead

2003 FLW Angler Of The Year, Dan Morehead recently shared one of his deep water secrets with ProBassAnglers.com-the Little George.

Here is how Dan rigs his Little George (Tail Spinner:)

  • Dan uses a 3/4 oz  bait to get to the fish as fast as possible.

  • Dan notes that the blade on the 3/4 oz model provides the perfect vibration, noting that "my confidence increases when I can feel the throb of the blade vibrating on the fall."

  • An American Rodsmiths' 6'10" worming and jigging rod gives him "plenty of pop" when jigging the bait up off of the bottom.

  • A high speed Shimano reel allows him to get a fast take up when a deep water fish strikes.  The longer rod and faster reel gives an angler a  tremendous advantage on a fish that is a long way from you (25-35 feet deep.)

Dan fishes the bait just like a jigging spoon.  "I am only making little pitches to get the bait out away from the boat.  I just pitch it out and allow the tail spinning blade to do its magic."

Dan notes that an angler can fish this bait anywhere bait fish are present.  He also recommends having two or even three rods rigged because the tail spinner does produce line twist which can cause backlash after several hours of fishing.
