What Is Pre Spawn?
America's Bass Pros Explain Their Approaches, To Transition Bass Fishing
by Keith Nighswonger

Pre Spawn may be the most abused term in bass fishing because its applications are so wide reaching. If you catch a bass in late Winter/Early Spring, was it a pre spawn fish?

Further more, different parts of the country have different versions of the year's seasons, Florida for example, doesn't have a recognizable Winter, at least by Pennsylvania standards.

What ever you want to call it, the key is transition. Where ever you bass fish, there is a time, a point in the year when bass go from feeding as their main point of existence to spawning, a point where the bass is perhaps at its greatest disadvantage and is vulnerable to all levels of anglers. That point, that just proceeds this change over is the time most pros consider PreSpawn.

In this multi-part series on Pre Spawn, we will ask some of the nation's experts to revel their secrets about this magical transitional period. Be sure to come back everyday as we will continue to update.

Pre Spawn-with Stacey King. "It is a time of movement and heavy feeding. Probably what defines this period most is the bass' sense of being on a mission." (1.17.04)

Pre Spawn-with John Crews. "Keep your eye on the water temperature. It is the most important factor in getting bass to stage up during Pre Spawn." (1.14.04)

Pre Spawn-with Dave Lefebre. "The key is knowing where the spawning flats are located and working back out." (1.13.04)
